Tired, but so much fun!

Yesterday, I went to Aso with 11 exchange students, 7 elder students (How do you say "先輩" in English, by the way?), and 6 friends!! Actually, we were supposed to go to Otachimisaki(御立岬), but, you know, it was raining yesterday. So we did have to change the plan. Some of exchange students said that we reallly want to swim! But it's totally impossible to swim in the sea, right? So we decided going to pool in Aso.

Firstly, we went to Kodaino-sato(古代の里) by using 7 cars in order to enjoy BBQ. Nobody knew where is the place. But 2 drivers had car navigation system, so we followed them, I navigated my friend with a map just in case though because I can read a map. We depart for the BBQ place at about 11:00am, and it took about 2 hours. But it is OK because we could enjoy driving each other.

Right after arriving, we started BBQ! Yaaaaaaaaaay! I love meat, meat, meeeeeaattttt!!!! 肉ーーーーー!!!haha These are the pictures of BBQ.

So nice huh?

After BBQ, we went to a pool for some of us. I didn't swim because I didn't have swimming suit and money to borrow it. Besides, we do have to wear swimming cap when we swim. We didn't know that thought, it SUCKED, but everyone looked like funny. Like this →
And everyone played a water slider. Hey, it's not swimming anymore!
During they were swimming, the rest people took a break because we were tired. We chatted, ate ice cream, and slept like this↓

After that, we went back to dorm, and had a dinner, Gay...oops! Homo-ben(ほも弁)! I ate 비빔밥(Pibimpab - ビビンバ)! It was good though, it took a but long time to eat it up. Then, we celebrated one exchange student's 21st birthday! Yaaaay, Happy Birthdaaay!! You can drink in your country finally! I went to Jeff's world bar after that, but I went back home at 11:15pm.

I was freaking tired, not as much as drivers, though, it was so much fun day! On summer vacation, I really want to go to beach with friends, of course on sunny day, and I want to swim!

TOEFL

Today, I've got TOEFL score. Actually, I was supposed to get the score yesterday, but I couldn't get it somehow. Although all my friends who took TOEFL have got the score yesterday. Oh, the result is not bad because it went up a little bit, but it isn't good enough. Besides, my score of the listening section was not good, I mean, it fell. So, I do have to study for TOEFL a lot.

I heard some of the friends have got bad score. I mean, their score didn't go up. That's too bad, but they still have a chance to go their score up! It is July 6th. We can take TOEFL ITP at SUC*CES English Academy on the day. We have a fair chance, and we can pass the exam for studying abroad.

We always have good news, on the other hand, we always have bad news as well. We can change something bad to something GOOD. So, we can get good score on the next TOEFL for sure. I know it's really tough but don't give up! Go for broke! I can assure you that everything will turn out fine!

I fonud this blog!

In writing class, we looked at blogs of other class. And I found this blog.

I went to Oita !

This is a posted title of the blog. The author of this blog is "Kosei", and blog name is "Hello from Kosei". The reason why I chose this blog is that the author went to Oita! Oita is my hometown, and the author introduced some points of Oita, Beppu, and Yufuin.

1.2. Best Essay

Selection and Assessment: Which of those essays do you feel is the best that you've written this semester, and why? Please remember that a complete answer is better than a short answer, and give at least two reasons to support your assessment.
  • I feel the 4th review is the best essay this semester for me. The first reason why I feel like that is that I could introduce and share with people my experience in NZ. I had no chance to introduce and share till I wrote this essay. The second reason is that I could write having fun. Other essays were difficult to write, and I don't wanted to do that. But I could write what I wanted to tell. Therefore, the 4th essay is the best essay.

2.5. Recent comments display

Does your blog display recent comments from blog visitors in a prominent location, for example in a sidebar, header, or footer widget? Where or why not?
  • My blog displays recent comments at the top of the sidebar because recent comments are renewed most frequently, I guess. If they are on the top of the blog, it is easy to look at them.

2.6. Additional reflections on comments

  • Commenting is good for me because if my classmates put a comment on my blog, it becomes my encouragement and we can share our opinions!

Finally...

I had Japanese interview test for exchange program today. It sucked because it was completely different what I expected. Usually, the interviewer ask us some questions, and then we answer the questions. But this time, they didn't ask any question to us. They said like, "We already read your document, so please explain about how do you connect this studying abroad to your future in 5 minutes each person." When I heard this, I thought like "What the f!!?? Are you kidding me!? They sucks!"

I think people who took this exam were disappointed. We prepared to answer all questions, but they didn't do that. They just asked like "What are you doing to get English skills, and how much score of TOEFL do you have right now?" They were NOT interested in us. They were just wondering how much score of TOEFL do we have.

...

Anyway, I have essay test tomorrow, so I do have to do my best on the test!

Do you know this band?

The name of the song above is "Wine Red". It's sweet, isn't it?? This band is "The Hush Sound". This is a pop quartet from Chicago, in the state of Illinois, the US. This band consists of Bob Morris on vocals and guitar, Chris Faller on bass and vocals, Darren Wilson on drums and vocals, and Greta Salpeter on vocals and piano. Initially named “The Hush,” the band changed their name to “The Hush Sound” when Geffen Records objected that their name was too similar to rapper "Hush".

I found this band by accident when I was on the Net. I don't remember what I was doing at that time, but I found the band in someone's blog. And there was a video of THS. Yeah, I watched it, and it was good. So I like this band. Now, I don't have any songs of THS, but I will buy one of their records sometime, I'm not sure though because they don't make their debut in Japan yet, I guess.

Have fun with your music!

[173 words]

June 17, 2008

It's time to listen to this song!

Let's watch the video, first of all!

Did you watch it? How was it? I hope you liked it. The band's name is "Anberlin", and it's formed in the state of Florida, the US, in 2002. This band is kinda new band I guess, and they don't make their debut in Japan yet. That's why my friend who is familiar with western music don't know this band.

I was introduced this band by a "senpai" when I was in high school. And then, I put them into my one of my favorite bands. Oh, the name of the song is "Paperthin Hymn". Wow, the thumbnail is kinda erotic...whatever! Anyway, this song is the best one for the fan of Anberlin.

BR 1-05: Mouse Tales

Finally, I will introduce “Mouse Tales” this time. This is the same author, Arnold Lobel. In this book, there are 1 Papa and 7 children, so this book contains 7 stories.

7 mouse boys were in bed, and they wanted Papa to tell a tale. But Papa had good idea. He told them 7 tales on for each of them. They promised to go right to sleep when he is done. The 7 stories were “The Wishing Well”, “Clouds”, “Very Tall Mouse and Very Short Mouse”, “The Mouse and The Winds”, “Journey”, “The Old Mouse”, and “The Bath”. After telling the stories, he asked them whether anybody is awake. There was no answer. They were snoring, and Papa said “I will see you all in the morning.”

I enjoyed reading this book, and all stories were interesting. I like this kind of book because I can read easily. I didn’t need to use a dictionary, so you guys can read this as well as me. I can assure that! You should read these, and you can enjoy!

[176 words]

BR 1-04: Mouse Soup

The second book which I read on the weekend is “Mouse Soup”. I like this author’s books because I can read easily as I said before. This book contains 4 stories, and all stories are for escaping from weasel.

A mouse was reading a book sitting under a tree. A weasel jumped out and caught the mouse. The weasel took the mouse and was going to eat the mouse as a mouse soup. The weasel put the mouse in a cooking pot, but then mouse said like, “WAIT! This soup is not going to taste good because it has no stories in it. Mouse soup must be mixed with stories to make it taste really good.” The weasel didn’t have any stories, so the mouse told 4 stories to the weasel. The 4 stories were “Bees and the Mud”, “Two Large Stones”, “The Crickets”, and “The Thorn Bush.” After he finished telling the stories, he taught the weasel how to put the stories into the soup. The weasel ran outside very fast to find the things. But when he came back to his house, he found a surprise, the cooking pot was empty. Yes, the mouse hurried to his safe house, and lit the fire, ate his supper, and finished reading the book.

I recommend this book to read because all stories were interesting. I think I don’t read this again sometime, but I will remember the stories someday. I just enjoyed this book this time.

[245 words]

BR 1-03: Days with Frog and Toad

I read 3 books on the past weekend, and this book is one of them, “Days with Frog and Toad”. The reason why I chose this book is that I like this series, and this is easy to read. This book contains 5 stories, and they are interesting. I like “TOMORROW” in the stories of this book.

One day, Frog came to Toad’s house, and “Drat!” he said. Toad’s house was really messy. But he didn’t want to clean up on the day, so he said “I will do it tomorrow.” Frog came into the house, and said “Your pants and jacket are lying on the floor. Your kitchen sink is filled up with dirty dishes. There’s dust on your chairs. Your windows and plants need scrubbing and watering.” But all answer of Toad was “Tomorrow.” He had many things to do tomorrow, so Frog said, “Tomorrow will be a very hard day for you.” Then Toad asked him, “If I pick up my pants and jacket right now, then I will not have to pick them up tomorrow, will I?” Frog said “No.” He picked them up, and put them in the closet. He asked Frog again about other things, and Frog answered “No”. Finally, the house became clean, and he felt better. Then he fell asleep.

I was empathized with Toad because I often say “tomorrow” like him. But it’s not good. I have to do that today, because if I did it today, I really don’t have to do that, you know. I will read this book sometime again, when I had time.

Writing Essay 1-05: My Language Learning History -and to be continued...-

Today, I will introduce my language learning history. To me, learning other languages is really fun, even though it never easy. It is because that every language contains its own rule like grammar, words, and so on. However, learning other language brings me exciting things in my life. I will talk about languages which I am learning now and have learned.

My mother tongue is of course Japanese as you know. And at KGU, I'm learning 2 foreign languages now; English and Korean. And when I was a freshman at KGU, I was taking Spanish instead of Korean. Firstly, I'm going to tell about my Japanese. I've been using Japanese since I was a kid, so it is really important for me. I think Japanese people must be able to use it perfectly because we are Japanese people and we have been using it since we were born. However, people who can use Japanese language correctly are getting decreasing I guess. I'm one of them I guess. Therefore, I'm taking Japanese linguistics class now, and I'm trying to understand correct Japanese. But I noticed that I can't know that in the class, so I will try to read a newspaper everyday. And I'm forgetting Kanji little by little, so reading new paper is good for me.

Secondly, let's talk about English. Most of people started learning English for 6 years from Junior high school, but most of them can't speak English well...no, they don't use and like it. But I'm not like them. I love English so much now, I can't understand it perfectly though. I also started learning it from junior high school, and I hated it till the beginning of junior at high school. Yes, I changed. I found a basketball DVD, and then I felt like "I want to be like them! I want to speak like them!" It was my origin to start learning English. Fortunately, I could go to New Zealand as a school trip. I couldn't speak English well, but after the trip, I studied English hard. That's why I'm here, KGU. Now, to improve my English skills, I'm trying many things. I often watch NBA and listen to music for listening, mail with 2 pen pals for writing and reading, and often talk with friends in English whenever and wherever we can for speaking. And I think English is really good tool to communicate with people around the world, because English is spoken as first common language in the world.

Thirdly, let's talk about Korean. Korean is interesting language. The letter looks like cipher. I think, we can't read it without study. Hey, can you read this?? "안녕" This means "Hello/Good morning/Good evening/Good bye", and the pronunciation is "an nyong". It's interesting, isn't it? I began to study Korean last summer, and I decide to take Korean class this year. Why? Because I like Korea and Korean drama, and some of exchange students are also interested in Korean. I don't think that Korean is not so important language in the world, but I'm sure it will help me somewhere or sometime.

Fourthly, let's talk about Spanish! Do you know that Spanish is spoken as second common language in the world? Yes, it's true. Many people speak Spanish. This is one of the reasons why I took Spanish last year. I can't take Spanish class this year because of required subject, Reading. But I'm want to take the class next year if I can. Spanish is difficult language for me because it has male and female noun, verbs change the style to correspond each the person and number. But I didn't give up last year because I tried to understand it again and again, and then I could understand Spanish a little. I don't study it right now, but I will study it during coming summer vacation on my own.

Those above are my language histories. I've studied 4 languages, and I'll continue studying them. It is because I like learning other languages. Actually, I'm interested in Finnish because I have one Finnish pen pal. And she is interested in Japanese. This means we can teach and learn Japanese and Finnish each other. Anyway, what I want to say is that I'm really glad to enter this university and department, and I want you to be interested in any languages even if the language is going to be useless, because I think the challenge is important and it will bring you something good in the future.

I'm kind pf nervous right now, because I have big and important test tomorrow. It is interview test in English for study abroad, and I think I'm the one of the first poeple among those who are going to take the test tomorrow.

During going home, I was thinking about the test. I was like "I hope I can speak well.", "Oh my gosh, I'm freaking nervous right now, it's less than last year though...", or "I'm hungry right now, so I do have to eat something!" like this. But suddenly, I thought like "Oh, thank you all for helping me. I'll do my best, and I'm going to pass the exam this year! I'm really really grateful for you all. Thanks!" Do you remember the power of the words? It is "Thank you". Yeah, I suddenly remember that. Then, I felt like good, and I got a confidence.

Thanks for helping me! I'm ready for the test now, and I'll do my best!

That's what you get when you let your heart win!

Hey! I post a video of "Paramore" again! This song is named "That's What You Get". I like Paramore so much! I think you are going to like this band immediately if you watch and listen to the video. I think the vocal, Hayley, is hot. And I think her voice is sounds like Avril Lavigne, right?? But I like better Hayley than Avril because she is same age as us! Yes, she was born in 1988. whatever!
Anyway, I hope you like this band and songs!!

[88 words]

Good Rice!

Yeah, I've got a little bit of rice today! How? All right, I'm going to tell you about it briefly.

Today, I had the job from 6:30pm to 11:00pm. And the restaurant always saves the rest of rice for tomorrow before we close the restaurant. But today, the staff in kitchin made too much rice, so we can't save all of them. And then, the owner said to me, "Hey Nakamura-kun! Do you want some of these??" I said YES quickly. That's why I could get the rice.

The rice is Koshihikari, so the rice is pretty good! Tastes good, and smells good. Yeah, I think so.

Anyway, I'm happy right now. I can have a good meal time with the rice once or twice.

Anthem!

Today, I'll introduce a punk-pop-rap band, Zebrahead. This band was formed La Habra, California, in 1996. This band has 2 vocals; Ali Tabatabaee(Rap) and Matty Lewis. Actually, Matty is new member of this band. The previous vocal, Justin Mauriello, quited the group to pursue other interests in 2004. But the same month, Matty received a call from Zebrahead's management, and was informed that Zebrahead were looking for a new co-lead singer. He went to California to try out for the role, and after being heavily impressed with what they saw, the four remaining members officially named him Zebrahead's new co-lead singer.

The name of this video is 'Anthem', by the way. The sound of the song is cool, isn't it? I like this song, and also like this band. I don't put the lyrics of this song this time though, I hope you like it!

Writing Essay 1-04: Natural Island, New Zealand

Today, I'm going to tell about my experience in New Zealand. I went to there 3 years ago as a school trip for a week. I went to many sweet places in NZ. I'm going to tell you about 3 things; farm stay, short trip, and Auckland in my trip in NZ. Are you ready to start??

In the trip, I was supposed to stay a farm for 2 days with 3 friends. And it was such a nice farm, pool, and so on though, they were really kind, friendly, and place surrounded by a lot of nature that I stayed with them. The family didn't live in downtown and have any sociable. Before visiting there, we had decided to stay without Japanese language, but we couldn't because we couldn't speak English well. But we always tried to speak in English, and they tried to listen to our story. The mother always gave us delicious cake after every meal, took us really nice places, and introduced NZ to us. It was too short time that we stayed the house though, we had really nice days. I can't forget them, even if they forget me.

After the home stay, we, all of high school students, went to 2 famous places in NZ. They are Rotorua and Waitomo. In Rotorua, we went to Government Garden, and we watched shearing a sheep in other place (I forgot the name of the place unfortunately... gosh damn it!). Anyway, we can find the history of Rotorua in Government Garden, and we can watch awesome show in other place. In Waitomo, there is a cave. And tiny glowworms are living in the cave. Thousands of these tiny creatures radiate their luminescent light as our guides provide informative commentary on the caves' historical and geological significance. Their light are mysterious and beautiful. We are not allowed taking any pictures in the cave, but it's going to be unforgettable memory in your life.

In Auckland, we just went shopping and sightseeing. Auckland is the biggest city in NZ and contains lots of inclines. It's a sister city with Fukuoka. There are beautiful park, big tower, shopping mall, and so on in Auckland. And there are at least 2 shops which clerks can speak Japanese, so if you are in trouble, they would help you I guess. What I want to say is that Auckland is good place, it contains a lot of incline though...

In conclusion, I had really good experience in NZ, and it is my origin to study English. NZ has a lot of beautiful nature, and people are very kind. I hope to go there again sometime. And I want you to go to NZ sometime! I can assure you that you can enjoy the trip when you go there!
